About Us

Growing up in a Fiji-Indian household, kava has always been a part of my life. Whether at social gatherings, to take the edge off a long day, or simply to unwind before bed, there was never a moment where kava wasn’t welcomed. For me, it created more than relaxation — it built a lasting connection back to Fiji, and a deeper bond with my family, sharing bowls over long conversations just as my father once did with his father.

However, in today’s fast-moving world, finding the time to prepare kava in the traditional way can sometimes feel overwhelming and too often, it meant missing out on the very moments kava was meant to enhance.

This is why we started INkava: to create an instant kava experience that fits into modern life without losing the heart of tradition. With INkava, mixing takes seconds — allowing more time for family, more time for connection, and more time to truly unwind.

Our mission is to share this heritage with the world, making the calming, grounding benefits of kava accessible to everyone — honouring the ancient traditions while embracing the pace of today.

The Cultural Significance

Kava (Piper methysticum, meaning "intoxicating pepper") has been cultivated for over 3,000 years. Legend says it was a gift from the gods — a plant given to humanity to bring peace, connection, and healing.

In traditional island life, kava was prepared by grinding or chewing the fresh root, mixing it with water, and straining it into a ceremonial bowl. People gathered around to share kava in rituals that celebrated diplomacy, storytelling, transitions, and community bonding.

It wasn’t just a drink — it was a symbol of trust, respect, and spiritual balance.

Healing and wellness:

Kava was believed to soothe the spirit, calm the body, and foster harmony.

Peacemaking:

In many islands, leaders would share kava to seal agreements or resolve conflicts.

A bridge between worlds:

Kava ceremonies were seen as connecting the human spirit to the divine.
